Glen Burnie Woman Among Six Highway Workers Killed During Work Zone Crash in Baltimore County

A 46 year old Glen Burnie woman is among the six highway workers killed after a vehicle crashed through a work zone barrier in Baltimore County last week.

Sybil Lee Dimaggio, 46, and five others were identified as the six contractual highway workers pronounced deceased on the scene by medical personnel from the Baltimore County Fire Department.  The six victims were in an active work zone on the left shoulder of the inner loop of I-69 when the incident occurred.

The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of an Acura was traveling in lane 2 at about 12:40 p.m., on March 23 when they attempted to change lanes.  As the driver attempted to move into lane 1, police believe their vehicle struck the front corner panel on the passenger side of a Volkswagen. Crash Team investigators believe this caused the Acura to lose control and subsequently travel through the barrier opening into the work zone and overturned.

Once the investigation is complete, the Crash Team will submit its findings to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office for review to determine whether charges will be filed.
