A Marijuana Purchase Gone Bad: Court Docs Reveal What Led Up to a Recent Fatal Shooting in Severn

Court documents obtained by Report Annapolis News show the events which police allege led up to a fatal shooting that occured in Severn last year. 

The Anne Arundel County Police Department this week announced that Vanae Lewis (left photo), 18, has been charged with the first degree murder of 20 year old Naim Rashid Addison (right photo), also of Severn. 

Police said on Sunday, August 21, 2022, at approximately 8:40 p.m., Anne Arundel County Police officers responded to the area of Pioneer Drive and Arwell Court in Severn for a shooting. In a press release, department officials said after the officers arrived on the scene, Addison was located suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. "Mr. Addison was seated in the driver's seat of a tan 2008 Honda Civic when the shooting occurred," the press release said.  "Unfortunately, lifesaving efforts could not revive Mr. Addison, who was pronounced deceased at an area hospital."

A witness to the shooting told investigators that Mr. Addison had driven to the area to participate in a drug transaction which had been arranged by Vanae Lewis. "A suspect approached the vehicle on the driver's side to pay for the drugs.  Two additional suspects then approached the vehicle on the passenger side.  One of the suspects then fired a shot into the car, striking Mr. Addison."

Ms. Lewis was identified this was as one of the three suspects. The additional two suspects have not yet been identified by authorities.   The entire charging statement can be read below:
