Man Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash Remains Held Without Bond, Memorial Service for Person Killed Planned Saturday

The individual who has been charged in connection with a recent fatal hit and run crash in Severna Park awaits trial while a memorial service for the person killed is expected to occur this weekend. 

According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, on October 3, 2026, at approximately 10:25 p.m., officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle that struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk on northbound Ritchie Highway at Magothy Bridge Road in Severna Park. Once on the scene, the Crash Reconstruction Team was requested, the department stated.

Officials say the preliminary investigation revealed that an SUV, possibly a Land Rover model L 462, Santorini Black in color, was traveling northbound on Ritchie Highway and struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk. "The vehicle continued north on Ritchie Highway, turned into the Magothy Shopping Center, and then returned to northbound Ritchie Highway. The pedestrian was transported to a local trauma center and later died from his injuries," department officials stated.

The pedestrian, Steven Joseph Reynolds, 54, of Severna Park, suffered fatal injuries. According to an online obituary, a memorial service will be held on Saturday October 10, 2026 at 11:00am at the Severna Park Baptist Church 506 Benfield Rd, Severna Park, MD 21146.

The suspect has been identified as 56-year-old Michael Garner Hilliard of Severna Park, Maryland. 

Mr. Hilliard remains innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
